Description

We looked hard to find a plastic-free toothbrush you could just toss in your compost or throw in a campfire once it has served its purpose. The plastic toothbrush market is HUGE and a large majority of plastic toothbrushes end up in landfills or the oceans. Because toothbrushes need to be replaced three or four times a year. All that plastic really accumulates over a lifetime. We found the perfect toothbrush.

It's handle is made of Moso bamboo which grows quickly and is considered a renewable and sustainable resource.

No need to cut out the head, this toothbrush is 100% compostable. No nylon bristles. Its bristles are all natural as they are made of boar hair that have been thoroughly disinfected. This hair is a byproduct of the meat industry in China. Rather than discarding the hairs, this supplier cleans and uses them to build brushes.  You might think "yuk, pig hair!", but worry not, the pig hair is completely cleaned before being used to make the brushes. With these natural bristles you can actually adjust the bristle hardness to your preference based on the moisture level. If you want them really soft, just soak the brush in warm water for a minute before brushing. It is completely normal to find some bristles that fall out from time to time.

*It is normal for a few bristles to fall out from time to time.

Please note that orders of toothbrushes and/or floss ship separately from anything else you might order (though at no extra shipping charge - you are charged only one shipping charge for your full order).

Too hard for teeth!

Maybe if I were a Klingon or a goat these would work but I'm human. Had to go to the store to buy another toothbrush to use instead of these. LWP response: We're not Klingons or goats either! So sorry to hear about your experience with these brushes, Ginny! This is a bit baffling to us as we find that when using them the bristles soften quickly and naturally while one is brushing. This works well to clean the teeth effectively of hard-packed debris at the beginning of the brushing session, and after a bit of brushing the bristles soften so much that there is more of a polishing effect. As well, the bristles can be very easily softened from the start by simply soaking them in a bit of warm water before beginning to brush. Live long and plastic-free, and prosper!

Versatile product

Excellent product. It is nice to find a truly compostable bamboo toothbrush as most use nylon bristles. I like that is uses a "waste" product from the meat industry - boar hair is a fantastic product. Would be great to find a supplier / source in Canada IF the handles are also created in Canada. You do have to brush a bit more gently than you would expect from a plastic brush (will prevent losing bristles) but it is ultimately better for your gums to have a more gentle pressure. I've also given them to guests and they love them as well! My friend used them for her mouth guard and she was impressed too.
